Formal and informal research in communication


Research not only important to academic writing, but also important to communication. However, formal communication is important in business world because it is easy to understanding the information and leading other people to solve problem together.in fact, not all the business require formal communication skills, but also informal communication became really common in the business world as well. 
-A formal structure individual who are the official sources of information and the information that is their special concern. 
- informal approaches recognize that a variety of needs, including social ones, underlie communication in organization and that, as result, the actual communication relationships in an organization maybe less rational than formal system.

What is informal research (Learning)?

  • informal learning is semi-structure and occurs in a variety of places, such as learning at home, work, and through daily interaction and shared relationship among members of society.

Informal research methods 

Collecting data information can enhance the writing. But, when we writing a research paper usually  spent  a lot of time to collect data information. However,  an informal research methods can helps to collected information quickly when don't have much time and no many resource.
Most common informal research methods:
Interviews
1. One to one interview:Ask a question of one informant at a time and note answer.
2.focus group interview: Ask a question of group of informant gathered together in on place and note question.
3. Interview that feature story gathering: Ask informant to share story that related to question, to similar problem solved by past.
Questionnaire 
Questionnaire is the most common informal research methods. 
Questionnaire are developed to be  disturbed , return and answer. There several types of questionnaire such as phone questionnaire, mail questionnaire, face to face questionnaire.
Observation  
Use by writer who are new to the situation and need to orient themselves to the organizational, the problem and the dynastic. The worker/writer shadow  a more experienced  worker in order to find  out how product operate , what that person job  is, and how to use.

What is formal research?

  • Formal research is a structure research style that allows students or researcher to present their finding  in a detail. 

Formal research structure 

Research is necessary before starting to write because the information you collect helps to shape the message. In most of college or university course usually require some use of formal research methods to complete reports, assignments or questions. However, formal academic also necessary to follow formal organizational structure; the typical organizational structure included introduction,methods, result, discussion and conclusion and recommendation.  
 Introduction 
Many people think writing a structure introduction gives them starts and helps them focus  on entire paper. Usually introduction have three parts:
1. Presentation of the problem or the research inquiry (First part of introduction)
- a context to show reader how your research inquiry fits into conversation.
2. Purpose and focus on current page (Second part of introduction)
-state your propose and focus; present actual thesis. 
3, Summary or overview writer's position or arguments (Third part of introduction)
- briefly leads reader through discussion, forecasting the main idea  
The Methods Section
The methods of  research paper should describe in detail what methodology and special material, if any, should use to think through the research. In another hands, used material helps you to design the assignment Such as questionnaire or interview question to generate information and data for research paper.   
The result section   
To present result of the research.  Quantitative information, which included brief description,explanation or instruction also include in result section.
Conclusion and Recommendation
conclusion all the result from discussion, or the result from your research, combined it in the thesis  and summary the main idea.

Formal Research Methods

  • Access electronically: The research process have been change considerably by computer. Most business people begin any research process by seeing what they can find electronically.
  • Search manually: If you need background or supplement information, you will probably conduct manual research in public or college library.
  • Investigate primary sources: primary sources for a project, go directly to the sources.  Also formal research include scientific sampling methods that enable investigators to make accurate judgement and valid predictions.
  • Experiment Scientifically: Another sources is experimentation. Instead of asking for the target audience's opinion, scientific researchers present choices with controlled variables, 

Informal Research Methods 

  • Look in the files: before asking others for help, see what you can find yourself.
  • Talk with your boss: Get information from the individual making the assignment.
  • Interview the target audience: Consider talking with individual at whom the message is aimed.

Formal and Informal methods to gain information

Faulty member use formal methods,searching traditional print  source alone with the newer electronic resource of gaining information for various purpose including researching and teaching. A student shown faculty also use informal method of information gathering,such as personal contact and personal communication. Most frequently because of the ease of using such resource and because of the result meets their needs. The informal methods of information information gathering has helped faculty in the same filed to compare and share information.
